Being hopelessly in love with all forms of design I spend a lot of time imagining the perfect this and the perfect that and then reimagining it all over again. But some things give pretty stiff competition to the next thing. Enter my latest table setting by My China! The Emperor Rim hits several soft spots on my favorites list. Birds? Check. Gold? Check. Florals? Check. But more than the obvious details I really enjoy the low and wide cup design that is filled with gold, and the restraint used on the dinner and pasta plates. Because I do prefer my dinner served on white plates.

Delightfully shiny this re-interpretation of a traditional carriage clock has a glass front with ornate etching and roman numerals and a chrome clock mechanism (including a separate second hand) suspended behind it.

Basically it's a really smart take on a great old design. It also weighs in pretty big so clear off your mantle. Simple assembly required, single aa battery not included (14.75"h x 10"w x 3.25"d).

One rule of home decorating is true as far as I’m concerned, add claw feet and it’s a must have. This porcelain Claw Candlestick in white calls out to my fantasy dining room. Because nothing oozes class like a severed pheasant foot balancing fire and hot wax. Note the hooked back for ease of handling while traversing dark corridors in your flowing nightgown in search of the origins of that strange sound.

Designed for the label Moroso, Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien were influenced by a miniature painting of a Maharani, surrounded and supported by multiples of pebble shaped cushions. A fusion of two textile worlds, the hand embroidered sofa showcases the best of Indian and European design.

“My Beautiful Backside is a collection of seats whose backrests are a composition of highly colored, floating cushions in various shapes. The wider your seat, the more cushions you can have. Our use of oversize symbols, such as the buttons on cushion backs, is a way of conveying a variety of messages. These symbols also provide a means of customizing each chair, making it unique, just as you would add little distinguishing touches to an article of clothing.”

The talented Camilla Engman and Karin Eriksson have teamed up to bring me, ok you, fantastic limited edition ceramics. Karin hand throws the stoneware that Camilla’s original graphics are applied to through screen-printed ceramic decals. Including my current want, the Mr. Black mug.

Because of their handmade nature, products colors and sizes will vary slightly. All pieces are dishwasher and microware safe.

The Icarus Light by the brilliant Tord Boontje is simply stunning. An enormous wing encases the very thing Icarus so foolishly pursued. Delicate and highly durable, the Icarus Light is made from multi-layered extruded mylar.

I like to imagine it in my fantasy dining room. Above a huge mirrored table. Hopefully my dinner guest won’t plan an escape and drown in the sea.

Fully assembled it measures 31"h x 16"w. Flat-packed for quick and easy assembly. Maximum wattage is 60.

The other day I watched "The Queen", as in the 2006 Helen Mirren film, and afterward was inspired to do a little online research about the royal family. It turns out that the British Monarchy has quite an extensive internet presence, whose crowning jewel (no pun intended...ok that's a lie) is its official website, which includes everything from family trees to job openings in the royal household (for anyone who's interested, there's a call for Trainee Butlers at Buckingham Palace).

After clicking through this site for a bit, I came across what proved to be a most interesting document: the official 2006-2007 Annual Report of the Royal Family. This 148-page PDF outlines every expenditure of the Monarchy (or Head of State, as they call it) over the course of the year, from travel to grounds maintenance to the Queen's personal upkeep.

Jonathan Adler why must you tempt me so? First the utopia line with it's double sided bowls I was forced to buy and the darjeerling tea pot I still covet. Then comes the druggist container set. And now, a squirrel ring holder? I'm not even sure what I would use it for. But I want one.

Although it's been a while since I've teethed, I can see why a set of aching gums would seek out Sophie the Giraffe. Made in the French Alps with natural rubber (phthalate-free) and food grade (non-toxic) paint, you can feel safe as your little one chomps away. Ultra light, soft and bendable she's perfect for little hands. No wonder why this French favorite has been around since 1961.

Sophie stands 7" tall but will mostly be resting head first inside your childs mouth.
